Starfield could probably use a Hail Mary. I don't say that to be needlessly incisive. It's just kind of... true. Despite early sales success, the game hasn't gone over well with plenty of Bethesda stalwarts. Nor did last year's Shattered Space, Starfield's first expansion, appear to alter course. Personally, I thought it was decent enough. But if anything, it might have made things worse.

Bethesda has been making it abundantly clear that there's more spacefaring content on the way, and it's even offered some tantalizing hints about what future updates might contain. But the game's second big expansion, which will presumably launch near or alongside a PS5 version in 2026, is presently an unknown factor. Er, or maybe it's an almost-unknown factor. The devs may have just given us our first cryptic hint.

Two Years On

Building on Alchiba-1 of the Alchiba Star System in Starfield.

Today marks Starfield's second anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, Bethesda Game Studios released a (very) brief video. At least, that's the official story. Clearly, it's been designed to induce chatter across the gaming community, because there's a hidden message packed inside this ten-second clip.

What does it say? Probably "TERRAN ARMADA". How do we know? Well, for starters, it's not that hard to suss out. But Gematsu has done us all the kindness of posting direct evidence:

Starfield celebrates its second anniversary tomorrow. Bethesda posted a teaser of what's to come: twitter.com/StarfieldGam... Here's the image we put together based on the teaser: Terran Armada? Gematsu page: gematsu.com/games/starfi... — Gematsu (@gematsu.com) 2025-09-05T15:32:09.425Z

Is 'Terran Armada' the name of Starfield's second expansion, then? Quite possibly. Or, you know, not. Even then, it's bound to be DLC-relevant. Perhaps the Terran Armada is a brand-new faction. Maybe this is a prequel-style storyline dating back to before Earth went all sideways-like. Maybe there's a secret remnant fleet out there who celebrates Earth in weird ways and becomes an existential threat to the known galaxy. Kind of like a recent episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. But I digress.

I reckon the most common guess is that this will indeed be the title of that second expansion. Especially with that rather distinct font involved. In fact, yes, folks are already taking to Reddit to proclaim as much. One thing's for sure: the video has done its job. It's got us talking.
